The Armor of the Christian

Ephesians 6:10–18 (KJV)

1. Introduction – The Christian Lives in a Spiritual Battle

The Christian life is not only about peace and blessings, but also about standing firm against spiritual opposition.

The apostle Paul teaches that every believer needs divine protection.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
(Ephesians 6:10 KJV)

2. Why Do We Need Armor?

The believer’s struggle is not against people, but against the unseen forces of darkness.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”
(Ephesians 6:12 KJV)

The armor of God is not optional, but essential for standing strong.

3. The Purpose of the Armor of God

God provides His armor so that the Christian may:

  • withstand in the evil day
  • resist temptation
  • remain firm in faith

“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
(Ephesians 6:11 KJV)

4. The Elements of the Christian’s Armor

Paul describes seven parts of spiritual armor.

The Belt of Truth

Truth holds everything together.

“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth…”
(Ephesians 6:14 KJV)

The believer must live in honesty and in the truth of God’s Word.

The Breastplate of Righteousness

Righteousness protects the heart.

“…and having on the breastplate of righteousness.”
(Ephesians 6:14 KJV)

This includes both the righteousness given through Christ and a life of obedience.

The Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

The believer walks forward with God’s peace.

“And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.”
(Ephesians 6:15 KJV)

The gospel gives stability, courage, and direction.

The Shield of Faith

Faith stops the attacks of the enemy.

“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”
(Ephesians 6:16 KJV)

Faith in God protects against fear, doubt, and lies.

The Helmet of Salvation

Salvation guards the believer’s mind.

“And take the helmet of salvation…”
(Ephesians 6:17 KJV)

It represents the assurance that we belong to Christ.

The Sword of the Spirit – The Word of God

The Word is the believer’s offensive weapon.

“…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
(Ephesians 6:17 KJV)

Scripture allows the Christian to fight back with truth.

Prayer – Constant Communion with God

The armor is empowered through continual prayer.

“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit…”
(Ephesians 6:18 KJV)

Prayer is the believer’s lifeline to God in every battle.

5. How Do We Wear the Armor Daily?

The armor is not only symbolic, but practical for daily life.

The Christian wears it through:

  • reading and trusting God’s Word
  • walking in truth
  • living in righteousness
  • strengthening faith
  • standing firm in Christ

“…watching thereunto with all perseverance…”
(Ephesians 6:18 KJV)

6. Conclusion – Victory Is in Christ

The armor is not our strength, but God’s provision.

“Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.”
(Ephesians 6:10 KJV)

The Christian stands firm because God equips him for the battle.
