Satan works miracles

The Bible warns that the existence of miracles is not automatic proof of divine origin. There are also supernatural signs produced through deceptive powers. Scripture clearly shows that Satan and his agents can perform miracles in order to deceive humanity.

Revelation 13:13-15 (KJV)

“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do… And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak.”

Main Idea

Spectacular signs may come from a deceptive power, not necessarily from God.

2 Corinthians 4:4 (KJV)

“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not.”

Satan actively works to deceive spiritual perception.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (KJV)

“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers… for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.”

Deception does not come only through obvious evil, but through the appearance of good.

Pharaoh’s Magicians – Exodus 7:10-12; 7:22; 8:7 (KJV)

The magicians of Egypt turned rods into serpents and imitated some plagues.

Lesson

Supernatural power is not always proof of divine approval.

Deuteronomy 13:1-3 (KJV)

If a prophet performs a sign or wonder and leads to another god, he must be rejected.

God tests loyalty, not impresses by spectacle.

Matthew 24:24 (KJV)

“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.”

Deception increases toward the end of history.

2 Thessalonians 2:9-10 (KJV)

“Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders.”

Miracles may have demonic origin.

How Truth Is Tested

  1. Agreement with Scripture (Isaiah 8:20)
  2. The character of God revealed
  3. The spiritual result – obedience or apostasy

Conclusion

The Bible does not ask us to believe every miracle. Truth is not confirmed by spectacle but by faithfulness to the Word of God. Miracles must be evaluated by Scripture, because even Satan can produce signs in order to deceive.
