(Psalm 110:1–2)
The world is filled with opposition, evil, conflict, and enemies of truth. Yet Scripture reveals a powerful reality:
Jesus Christ reigns even while His enemies are still present.
His kingdom is not hindered by darkness or resistance.
Psalm 110 is one of the most important Messianic prophecies about Christ and His reign.
1. Jesus Is the Lord Enthroned at the Right Hand of God
Psalm 110:1 (KJV)
“The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”
Explanation
David speaks of “my Lord,” referring prophetically to the Messiah.
Jesus is the One who is seated at the right hand of the Father, the place of highest authority.
This is confirmed in the New Testament:
Hebrews 1:3 (KJV)
“…when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.”
Jesus is not defeated—He is enthroned.
2. His Enemies Exist, but They Are Under His Control
The verse says:
“until I make thine enemies thy footstool.”
This shows that:
- Enemies are real
- Opposition continues
- But victory is certain
God Himself will bring complete submission of all enemies.
1 Corinthians 15:25 (KJV)
“For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet.”
Jesus reigns even during the conflict.
3. Jesus Reigns Now, Not Only in the Future
Psalm 110:2 (KJV)
“The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.”
Meaning of This Verse
- The “rod” represents royal authority and power
- Christ’s reign begins from Zion, the center of God’s kingdom
- Jesus does not wait for His enemies to disappear before ruling
He reigns now, even while enemies remain.
4. Christ’s Reign Is Spiritual, Powerful, and Victorious
The enemies of Christ can include:
- sin
- the world
- Satan
- persecution
- rebellion against God
Yet Christ remains King.
John 16:33 (KJV)
“In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”
Nothing can stop His reign.
5. Believers Live Under His Reign Even in Difficult Times
Even in trials, Jesus is ruling, and His people are not abandoned.
Romans 8:37 (KJV)
“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”
Christ reigns in the midst of enemies, and His church stands secure.
6. The End Is Certain: All Enemies Will Be Fully Defeated
Jesus reigns now, but His rule will be revealed completely at the end.
Revelation 19:16 (KJV)
“KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
All opposition will finally be destroyed, and Christ’s reign will be fully established.
Conclusion
Psalm 110 teaches powerful truths:
Jesus is the King seated at the right hand of God.
His enemies cannot stop His authority.
He rules even in the midst of opposition.
His victory is guaranteed.
Psalm 110:2 (KJV)
“Rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.”
