Jesus our example

1. Introduction – The Christian Life Is a Call to Follow Christ

Christianity is not only about believing in Jesus, but also about living like Him.
God has given us the perfect model of holiness, humility, and love.

Jesus Christ is not only our Savior, but also our example.

“For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.”
(1 Peter 2:21 KJV)

2. Jesus Christ Is the Perfect Example

No human being has lived a sinless life except Christ.

“Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.”
(1 Peter 2:22 KJV)

Because He was without sin, His life is the perfect standard for believers.

3. Jesus Is Our Example of Humility

Christ willingly humbled Himself, even though He is Lord of all.

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus… he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”
(Philippians 2:5,8 KJV)

The Christian is called to walk in humility, not pride.

4. Jesus Is Our Example of Obedience

Jesus perfectly obeyed the Father in everything.

“I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.”
(John 5:30 KJV)

True discipleship means surrendering our own desires to God’s will.

5. Jesus Is Our Example of Love

Christ showed unconditional love through His sacrifice.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
(Romans 5:8 KJV)

Believers are commanded to love others the same way.

“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you.”
(John 13:34 KJV)

6. Jesus Is Our Example of Service

The Son of God came not to be served, but to serve.

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
(Mark 10:45 KJV)

Christians are called to serve with the same heart.

7. Jesus Is Our Example in Suffering

Jesus endured suffering without retaliation or bitterness.

“When he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously.”
(1 Peter 2:23 KJV)

The believer learns patience and faith through trials.

8. Following Christ Daily

To follow Jesus means:

  • walking in humility
  • obeying God’s Word
  • loving sacrificially
  • serving others
  • trusting God in suffering
