Jesus the end of the law

1. The Covenant With Abraham Came Before the Law of Moses

God’s promise did not begin with the Law, but with faith.

“Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham… and I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land.” (Genesis 17:5–8, KJV)

Paul explains that the promise existed before the Law.

“The covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul.” (Galatians 3:17, KJV)

Faith — not the legal code — was the basis of the relationship with God.

2. The Law Had a Temporary Role

The Bible shows the Law was a tutor leading to Christ.

“Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ.” (Galatians 3:24, KJV)

Its purpose was to reveal sin and the need for salvation.

3. Christ Is the End of the Law

The apostle Paul directly states the role of Jesus.

“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” (Romans 10:4, KJV)

Not the end of morality, but the fulfillment of its purpose.

4. A New Era Began With Jesus

Jesus indicated a change in spiritual time.

“The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached.” (Luke 16:16, KJV)

A new era began — the age of the Gospel.

5. God Promised a New Covenant

The prophets foretold the end of the old system.

“Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant.” (Jeremiah 31:31, KJV)

It would not be like the covenant at Sinai.

6. The Apostles Decided the Mosaic Law Was Not Binding

In Acts 15 the issue of circumcision and the Law was discussed.

“Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples?” (Acts 15:10, KJV)

Christians were no longer required to keep the Law of Moses.

7. The Sacrifices Were Replaced by Christ’s Sacrifice

The Law had repeated sacrifices, but Christ offered one final sacrifice.

“But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever.” (Hebrews 10:12, KJV)

The ceremonial system completed its role.

8. Christians Are Not Under Law but Under Grace

“Ye are not under the law, but under grace.” (Romans 6:14, KJV)

Believers live by faith, not legal code.

9. The Law Was “Blotted Out”

“Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances… nailing it to his cross.” (Colossians 2:14, KJV)

Through Christ’s death, the old system ended.

10. The Law Is Fulfilled Through Love

The new law is spiritual.

“He that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.” (Romans 13:8, KJV)

The principle is no longer a list of rules, but transformed character.
